Congratulations goes to Eberhard Bauer, who has been selected to receive the PA's 2013 Outstanding Career Award. This award goes to a PA professional or associate member to recognize sustained research or service contributions that have advanced the discipline of parapsychology.

Eberhard Bauer studied history and philosophy at the University of Tübingen and graduated in psychology from the University of Freiburg. He has been associated with the Freiburg ‘Institut für Grenzgebiete der Psychologie und Psychohygiene’ (IGPP) [Institute for Border Areas of Psychology and Mental Hygiene] since 1970 where in 1972 he became scientific assistant to Prof. Hans Bender, who founded the Institute and was holder of the chair for ‘psychology and border areas of psychology’ at Freiburg University from 1954 until 1975. He is currently head of the IGPP Counseling and Information department and the “Historical Studies on Parapsychology, Archives & Library,” which he helped to establish. Bauer is a member of the Institute’s Council and Managing Board, co-editor of both the “Zeitschrift für Parapsychologie und Grenzgebiete der Psychologie” and the IGPP book series “Grenzüberschreitungen” [Crossing Borders]. 

For many years Bauer has taught courses and seminars on psi research and anomalistic psychology within the Psychological Department of Freiburg University. Together with his IGPP team he is offering information, counseling and psychotherapy for people reporting exceptional or anomalous experiences (including field work in RSPK cases) and he is organizing educational seminars for clinical psychologists, psychotherapists and medical doctors. Among his special research interests are biographical, cultural and historical aspects of spiritism, occultism and psychical research in Germany since the 19th century until today. Bauer is one of the founding members of the German ‘Wissenschaftliche Gesellschaft zur Förderung der Parapsychologie’ (WGFP) [German Society for the Advancement of Parapsychology] as well as a member of the Society for Psychical Research, the Parapsychological Association and the Society for Scientific Exploration.
