POSITION
STATEMENT |
|
When, in 1985, Friederike Schriever accepted Prof. Hans Bender's invitation to choose the Freiburg IGPP as the place for her two-year practical research in psychology, her leading interest was in the possibilities of applying known, accepted scientific methods in order to study, and maybe explain, parapsychological phenomena. This basic interest has remained unchanged since then. Consequently, in those parts of her own empirical research work that pertains to parapsychology, she analyzed the conditions for, and structures of, spontaneous phenomena (precognitive dreams, RSPK case reports). The psychological conditions under which spontaneous experiences occur have always been in the focus of her interest. In the extensive research for her PhD dissertation, she has investigated the reasons and justifications persons mention for their paranormal convictions. And she has tried to identify
phenomena-specific and/or conviction-specific patterns in the arguing strategies of persons
